Wedge-Bodied Guitar
Wedge-Bodied Guitar

The life of a hand maker can be interesting. I got a request for an
“ergonomic” guitar for somebody who is short with small hands and who is getting tired of reaching around Dreads. After a lot of e-mail back and forth we settled on a “wedge” shaped body and a narrow neck with a scale length of 20". This is the result. The choice of 12- or 14-fret neck was left up to me. I ended up making it 14 frets just because 12 would have looked so short! This put the bridge up pretty high and, combined with the slack strings, made for an acoustic challenge. The result seems to have worked out well, although with the narrow nut and close fret spacing challenged my big mitts. The woods are Sitka spruce and Indian rosewood. The binding and bridge are made from Morado and the neck is mahogany.
